Do you really need a fax? Its a bit old fashioned - why not use email? If you must have a fax, use efax.com for incoming faxes - you have your own number, its free, and faxes go to your email account so you print out the ones you want. Plus they have to ring an 0870 number!

Not everyone has the computer on all day. Faxes are still a quick way to send/receive hard copy info.
p.s. If the question is to long for the reply box, try maximising the window. It worked for me with the previous Q.

I work in the building trade and am being faxed on various occasions with details of lintel stresses and building reg's ect, so yes I do need a fax I will look in to what you said though Thanks Ukkid76

Wildwood - you don't need your computer on all day. Just logon and download at anytime. Also, I tried rezining the window - I think its because you were first, but now you've taken more space. Try again and see if you can add a second reply. Its the size of ukkid76s post that have stopped him/her getting answers.

ukkid76 - having an -fax account means you can still receive emails at any time, its just that if they're spam you just don;t print them. If the're useful you can print them as many times as you want and still have a soft copy.

Pinotage - The ease of a fax is that you can instantly see when you receive a message due to the paper sticking out of the bottom of the machine, without having to startup the computer and logon etc. It is also a lot easier to stick a copy of a plan, drawing etc in a fax and dial, rather then go through scanning etc. on a computer.
Have also posted a second reply to the previous Q, no trouble to do it in the manner decribed above.

Your idea may work but in general the worst thing you can do is try and unsubscribe directly with the company because all it confirms to them is that you are successfully receiving their junk.

It seems I haven't made my suggestion clear. If you publish a fax number then you risk getting spam which costs YOU money - and ties up your fax number. ukkid76 is already irritated enough to want to do something about it - but replying to these faxes and threatening claims courts - even if they work on one spammer - will not deter all the others that are in the woodwork.

It seems the only real solution is to change the fax number, but as soon as you publish it, you open yourself to spam.

wildwood scoffs at this because he says you need to instantly see a fax arriving. I don't see why thats necessary, and anyway any business today thats going to survive tomorrow will be using e-mail fo rthe majority of thei rcommunications. And e-fax is just another email that comes exactly as sent and can be printed out and looks indistinguishable from a fax.

wildwood also says that sending faxes is a pain if you have to scan them into your computer. I agree, I didn't suggest doing so. Use a fax machine, but just for out going faxes and do not publish the number anywhere.

But you can give the number to trusted business partners. So the only people using your efax number will be spammers or brand new contacts; you can give them your real fax number if and when you want to do business with them.

I can see wildwood can add to the answers on the other question, but I still can't - it wont go down to the submit button. I guess we have different screen sizes, or different definitions or different browser set up. Whatever - its a design fault of Answerbank that has been the subject of previous discussions.

Are you using a MAC? Maybe thats why you can't scroll down. I don't think it's the fault of the site or else everyone else would have the same problem

Thanks for all your comments you are right I know if I reply to the spammers I am fair game as they are concerned I am just trying to fight for my rights albeit unsuccessfully, but hay what the heck!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway, Internet fax can be receive through smart phone or iPhone too. All you need is your account.
