Of course, you may need to be into your music enough to be really able to notice any great difference, but thats another thing.
Bose, however, is different. If you go down your local highstreet and ask random people for the name of a high quality hi-fi manufacturer, I bet loads of them will say Bose. This is because Bose spends more on marketing than any other manufacturer in the music industry. Their stuff is good; equally as good if not better than a top quality system from Sony or some other company. But it's not _that_ good, and better systems can be got for cheaper. They rely very heavily on clever marketing, with most people not really knowing of the other cheaper and better options (random British hi-fi makes, among them).
If you've ever been in a specialist hi-fi shop, noticed how often the Bose stuff is placed on its own? Perhaps you thought it was because Bose likes their stuff all in one place to create a nice display? Really it's because they know people like to compare sounds, and if you want to compare Bose with some other brand, you have to walk away and listen to something else, making the Bose usually sound just as good or better. If they were right next to eachother, they'd probably not sound as good, or at least no better.
