pop ups

I've started to get popups, all of a sudden, loads of them and some have no border, stay on top and wont close even though there is a close button. My pop up blocker is on and it's driving me mad!

Any suggestions, anyone please

1) stop using internet explorer, and use something better, i.e. firefox! (it's totally free)

2) install the adblock plus extension for firefox:

3) install the Filterset.G updater, to keep on top of the filter for you:
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1136/

optional:
4) once all that's done, type "about:config" in the address bar. browse to where it says "privacy.popups.disable_from_plugins" and make sure the value is set to "2" (it should be).

I agree with fo3nix, mozilla firefox is a Lot better and I use it all the time now. No annoying pop-ups or anything and my connection is a lot faster too.

(You will notice the difference and wonder why you put up with IE all this time....)

great advice, thanks fo3nix. seem to be pop-up free now. can also notice the speed difference jump79, so much better. will recommend it to anyone :-)

To get a further speed jump, try installing the fasterfox extension:

Another very useful extension is Tab Mix Plus. This allows you to customise the tab settings (use several tabs in one window, instead of several windows), and also handily comes with a session saver so that if firefox or your computer crashes, you don't lose all the pages you were browsing:

Oops, that latter URI is a little long. Try this instead:

Also worth noting is that the adblock extension blocks adverts in the middle of pages too, not just popups.

still having a bit of trouble fo3nix. keep getting blocked, blank pages coming up very often. have selected 'collapse blocked elements' but doesn't seem to be helping... any ideas?
