The trays sometimes have a tiny hole somewhere on the side - this can be used with a paperclip to eject the tray/DVD/CD.

If you mean a full size domestic DVD Rewriter, it should be relatively simple to remove the casing and get to the tray assembly.

Of course, I won't insult you and suggest that it not be connected to the power supply when you do this ;-)

Which make/model is it?

hi there, i have managed to get the disc out using machecoul suggestion, however i have connected it up to the computer and now not even the lights come on!

not sure what i could have done to break it.

the guy who gave it to me assured me it powers up and 'tries' to do something, but now it won't do anything.

would putting it in another bay using diffent cables amke any difference do you think?

If there is another 4-pin (molex) power connector available certainly try that one and see what happens.

You do not need to connect the ribbon cable to test if the drive is receiving power. If it doesn't flash its lights, grind or whirr when you power up then I'm afraid the drive's had it!
It wasn't me - honest!
