Why are they still so expensive? How come I can buy a DVD player for less than �20, but the cheapest video recorder I've seen is �40 - I thought they were on their way out?!

It's the recording technology that is expensive.

The cheap dvd players do not record, whereas it is difficult to find a video player that does not have this facility.

i guess they have all massively scaled down production too meaning that prices wont drop.
