Belkin routers

Well, this is as much an answer as a question. Why does my belkin wireless router need to be turned off and started again? It seems to over heat so I put it in the freezer for 2 mins and then it is great for a day.

If it gets that hot and it's in warranty I'd consider getting it changed!

My router (not Belkin) is on 24/7 and is never too hot to touch...

I wouldn't recommend putting in the freezer - it's not designed for that sort of temperature for any length of time.

The sudden cooling and heating could cause extreme thermal stress on the circuit board and components causing total failure.

There are reports of some types of Belkin overheating. Which model is it and how old is it ?

As has been mentioned, get it replaced under warranty if it's that bad.

I have a Belkin router, and was advised never to turn it off ... and it works fine so far. Maybe you should get your's checked?

not only that but bringing it from the cold into a warmer climate could cause condensation and short it out or maybe worse cause a fire.

Mine gets pretty hot too. Try dropping the speed down from "g" setting at 54mbps to "b" setting at 12mbps: in the router settings, click on "channel and SSID" and choose the wireless mode to be "11b only"
