Hi, I'd love to get the song "Sinnerman" by Nina Simone as the ringtone on my new phone (Nokia 5140i) Anyone know if it's available and if so, from where? Thanks

According to the specs, that phone can use mp3 ring tones. Can you just edit the track on your computer and upload it?

Hi L. thanks for that - can you advise me on any good software to that with and how to do it?
(sorry, a bit of a technofobe!!)

Thanks
You should have software and hardware for transferring tracks to/from your phone already. I'm not a "Nokia" guy, so I don't know the exact set-up, but your phone should allow you to choose media files that are on it as ringtones - just have a browse around the menu!

I'm assuming that you need to know how to edit the track for a ringtone and that you already have the track on your hard disc in mp3 format (if not, post for further advice!). I guess that if you want a really long tone you could just use the whole track (if your phone has sufficient memory!).

Download Audacity from http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/windo ws; you'll also need the LAME encoder on the same page (both free). Install both.

Open Audacity and go to Project>Import Audio and browse to and select your "Sinnerman" track. This will take a few seconds to import. You'll end up with a visual display of the track. If you play the track, you can choose the bit you want as your tone. Make a note of the approximate start/end times.

Zoom in with the magnifying glass to the area you want, drag the mouse (left click and drag) over the area to select it. Press Play to check you have the right selection. (There are other ways to edit the track if you have difficulty with this method).

When you are happy with your selection, go to File>Export Selection As MP3 and save the track somewhere on your machine that you will remember as Ringtone (or similar). Transfer it to your phone, set it as your ringtone, and you'll have an uncle called Bob.

This sounds a bit complicated, but Audacity is generally quite intuitive - you should be fine. If not, post back.
