Can you run 1994 DOS:/ games through Windows XP?

I have an old DOS game called FIFA International Soccer, which was released in 1994, its a game which runs through DOS commands and used to run in our old windows 95 computer, however even using the Cmd program located on Windows XP, i cannot get it to initialize, it has a block of some kind preventing it from running, does anyone know of anyway this can be turned off or is there some way i can convert this game, etc, please help
