Come off it, Dotty! Since when have you ever had time to watch telly? I thought you were on AB 24 hours per day :-)

Seriously, you won't be able to watch anything on your TV unless you've got an aerial plugged into it. If you have, and pressing the channel buttons on the telly (or the remote control) doesn't give you a picture, it means that the set isn't tuned in. At this point, the only really sensible advice is 'Read the handbook!' No, I'm not trying to be awkward; the problem is that there are almost as many different ways of tuning TV sets as there are makes and models!

On most modern sets, you need to look for a button on the remote control handset, labelled something like 'Menu'. from there, it's a bit like navigating the menus on a mobile phone. You're probably looking for something like 'Set-Up', followed by 'Tune' or 'Auto-Tune'. Hopefully, pressing some buttons like that should get your TV tuned in. You might find that the channels are in odd places (e.g. BBC1 might come up as Channel 3, instead of Channel 1 which is where most people expect it to be) but you can probably live with this until you get your Sky cable repaired.

Don't bother calling in a specialist Sky contractor to fix the cable. As long as the break isn't in some out of the way place, all that is required is someone with a coax plug and socket, a pair of wire strippers and possibly a soldering iron. The whole job should only take a few minutes and almost anyone can do it in a few minutes.

buy a simple inline joint, pennies at your local tv repair shop. its not hard to strip the wires back, its exactly the same as ariel cable....one male end on each side and the in line joint in the middle and hey presto sky conntected back
