No, it is not right, but most of the PC laptops have it. Get yourself and Apple laptop.
Your fan will kick in more often in certain situations such as placing it on a soft surface so air cannot circulate freely.

Mine doesn't come on that often though. Is the fan very noisy or seem to be labouring?

I suggest you contact Packard Bell to see if this is considered normal behaviour for your laptop.

i had been charging for like 2 hours and was on my sofa so that sort of makes sense. No it was not making a loud noise or anything. Just noticed that every 2 mins a soft warm breeze was exiting from the side and I could hear the little fan.
If there are any air vents try clearing them, maybe with a small paint brush, that might help.

It's probably ok. The heat system is constantly evaluating itself. Try if you have one running an intensive game or program, like Photoshop. You should hear the fan on more often since it's having to deal with more heat. If your system starts randomly crashing every so often, then it may be overheating.

JjP: I also think that apple products are generally better, but it's hard to fight Apple's corner on this issue due to the problems users of the macbook pro have been having with their systems getting too hot.
