How can i copy a movie i've downloaded on to a regular 700mb cd-r, so i can watch it on my dvd player? I dont have a dvd writer and just need a useful program so i can watch my movies!

It can be done, though a dvd would give better results. I think any decent cd writing software should be able to handle it. If you intend doing this a number of times it may well be advisable to invest in a dvd writer.
A 2 hour film can easily use up a 47gb dvd if copied in high quality.

It would have to be compressed to fit on to a cd.

What is the file size of your movie? Too much compression makes a poor copy.
Ooops = that should be 4.7gb, obviously. :)
to fit a movie on to a cd,the source code would have to be in the region of 400-500 megs max to fit on when re-encoded to a movie format.this would be a poor quality movie tho

the best way is to download splitter software that would allow you to cut a good quality movie in half and burn to 2 cd's.
