Dual PIII 733mhz CPU Comparison.

Hello, I have a Dual PIII 733mhz machine, I was wondering if anyone knows if there is any kind of CPU comparison web site where I can equate the power of my machine to modern CPUs. Thanks.

It is difficult to compare older system with newer ones. You have a very tidy system, one that you should be proud of. The PIIIs are very good processors but only run at a 133 MHz FSB (front size bus). The memory (RAM) you have will only be PC133 and so will also run at 133 MHz. Your system will only be as fast as the slowest bus speed and so will suffer in comparison to modern P4 or Athlon XP+ processors. The dual system will only be effective if you have an operating system that supports it (Windows NT/2000 or XP) otherwise you might as well just have the one. Thus, a dual 733 (total 1400 MHz) may not match up to a single Athlon XP+ 2100 (1700 MHz). If you want to win the processor p1ss1ng match then get a quad Xeon P4 processor system.
j2's analysis of 'power' comparisons is spot on. Another aspect to take into account through is that applications can run wild with your CPU,slowing everything down to a crawl. I have a dual 1Ghz and find it incredibly useful to switch the affinity (that is which processor is used for eac process), so that jobs that gobble up CPU time can just be left to run on the second processor, whilst the rest of the system can run unimpaired on the first. The applications don't run faster, but the responsiveness makes it feel like they do!
