A mate just asked me ......If you accidentally erased messages from your phone is there anyway of getting them back...... say, from the network provider. I don't think so, but I said I'd ask

No, not really. They'll probably be kept on their servers for a matter of hours, but it's highly unlikely they'd ever be able to / want to, send them back to you.
