Internet Security
5 Answers
I paid 29.95 only twelve months ago for Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security. It does give top security. However, the Company now requests for one year 's renewal 29.95 or two years' renewal 39.95. I have been with this Company for a good few years, but originally, I got it free from one of the big banks. Is this expensive? I only use the computer for my own private use but I do have several e.mail bank accounts. Any advice welcome.

I also do a lot of internet banking with different institutions but believe I am as secure as I can be.
I suggest you have a read of this page, and consider downloading the free security from the links:

I use ZoneAlarm and AVG, and also run adaware, ewido, spywareblaster, A2, Ewido and Spybot regularly.
The most important thing is to make sure all security is up to date, otherwise it is useless.
But if you prefer to pay, then the offer seems good and the product is reasonable.

Thank you both Ethel & pcwork for taking the trouble to help me. I do admit I'm sceptical regarding 'free for a period' securities in case I should forget to update. Also, do they include firewall and what about 'phishing' ?
Like Ethel, I do have a lot of different e.mail banking accounts as well as using paypal and I suppose for this reason I do have peace of mind by paying for such security and anti-virus. So ... I'm still pondering a bit!
It's a bit of a minefield, isn't it?

Sorry I'm late getting back to you Trish.
The software I mentioned are not free for a trial - they are simply free.
The updating is important because there are new viruses and other nasties being developed every day. If you didn't update the software, these new ones would not be detected.
Most software updates itself automatically, but it is always worth doing a regular 'check for updates' just to be sure.
I too use PayPal, and all my banking and bill paying is done on-line.
All I can say for sure is use lots of different programmes, and never use Norton - it will slow your pc to a crawl.
