Is it possible to hook up a 12V dvd drive with a TFT screen as a cheap 'in-car' system. If so, what other kit would I need, & how would I go about connecting it up?

What do you mean by a 12V DVD drive? If you mean a DVD-ROM drive designed for computer use you are out of luck since you require a computer to read the data from the DVD disc, make sense of it, create a video picture from it to be sent out to a video port to the TFT screen. In other words you need a laptop. I saw a Goodmans portable DVD player on QVC the other day which did precisely what you ask and that was pretty cheap.
