help!! no desktop icons

is there someone out there that can help me please i turned on my pc yesterday and was greeted with a desktop with no icons no quick start menu no ability to right click just my wallpaper pic. the only way i can accesses my programs and the internete is by pressing ctrl/alt/del bringing up the task manager and clicking new task then clicking browse. i am running windows xp professional. i have run system restore but i get the same prob, after i reboot - very greatful for any ideas ta very much :-)

Is explorer.exe one of the processes running? If not you can start this to get your desktop back then look in the event log for any application failures. This may give you a clue as to why it is not running. There is a Microsoft document similar to this but it was written for Windows 2000 see: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;

hiya ive just had the same problem,
try this it worked for me
press ctrl alt del and the task manger will come up.
the go to file run new task, then where it says run type explorer and all should be fixed.
