speaker driver

Have re formatted my computer to factory state, but the speaker drivers are no longer accesable, hence no sound from both moniter and external spaekers, even though they are connected properly, what could be the problem ?

Have you tried 'troubleshoot' in the sound, speech and audio devices?

yes,but it says that the device is working properly, but it will not allow me to make any volume and speaker setting adjusments !
How very odd. No beeps on start up or anything like that?

Are you sure all cables are properly connected?

yes, all other devices are working, printers, etc..
The pc make is an advent 3216 2.8GHz
Can you get any sound through headphones?

Just trying to eliminate all possibilities - starting with the easy bits.
Did you actually install all the drivers that came with the machine? It may be that Windows has mis-detected your sound card and installed the wrong driver set. If you have a driver disk, try uninstalling the drivers and re-installing from that disk.

dont have any headphones, volume control for both cd and dvd at the front of tower on max position, there is some background humming through speakers when they are powered on . many thanks in helping me with this problem
You need to put in your motherboard cd (if its a custom system) or your drivers cd that came with your prebuilt computer, and install the audio driver.

pre owned pc ,i have no cd driver that i can install !!
what about right click on my computer click manage, then go to device manager, then look for the sound and audio devices ( may have a yallow question mark by it) right click on it and select update driver.
