I have two computers - one in dining room and one in loft - we have belkin wireless router on 1st floor - it has always worked quite well but lately the computer in the dining room keeps losing the internet connection and is very very slow - sometimes as low as 5.5Mbps! We are very frustrated trying to use the internet. Anyone any ideas - do I need a faster router or are they all the same speed - do I need to move the router - do I need a new pc - could it be the usb ports with the wireless adapter?

Please help - its driving me insane!!

5.5Mbps sounds pretty fast to me... given your internet connection itself is probably no faster than around 2Mbps.

You could try moving the router; it doesn't like metal objects or thick walls in the way. Also, make sure the antenna on the router is parallel to the floor.
