Upgrade from Windows Millennium to XP
I have a very good MESH computer that is running on Millennium which I would like to upgrade to run on Windows XP. I don't have a copy of XP so what is the best option for getting hold of one...and then when I have one, is it a fairly easy process? There are no files or folders that I wish to keep so it could be a 'clean' installation.
Can anybody advise please? Many thanks

it sums it all up well - and tells you how to check
you may even be eligable for a cheap(er) upgrade
a machine running ME is "probably" ok ... but printers/scanners etc (bough at the same time may not have drivers available for XP

Many thanks to you all for all your very helpful advice. I don't wish to appear ungrateful but I have decided (for the short term) to stick with Millennium, providing that I can get a suitable (free) firewall and antivirus programme. I only use the machine for the internet (its not our main computer) - and actually seems a bit quicker than our main computer which runs XP home. But any advice on a suitable firewall/antivirus would be appreciated.

!$*k....can you believe this?! I thought I would take the excellent advice about firewalls/antivirus and went upstairs this morning to start and download and install and guess what...the computer won't boot up! It gets so far and then when it comes to the screen that has the Windows Millennium logo etc it seems to stop and the computer makes a funny noise twice - like running your fingers along the teeth of a comb...and thats it - thats where it stays. Is it kaput? Hard Drive knackered...I haven't a clue. Any thoughts please - do I need to look more closely at those Dell adverts that seem to fill my inbox every day!!
