worm/VB.AUG

I have been infected with this worm, My AVG anti virus cannot heal it, I cannot find any reference to it anywhere,I cant find any ref to any part of it on my PC.other than on the AVG site. Here are the details as shown.

I have used all the programmes recomended by other Answer bank posters but have had no luck.
I have no idea how this got onto myPC.
Anyone heard of this worm before?
Any ideas as to what I can do to get rid of it?

This is typically got from P2P sites such as Limewire.

It is possible that AVG has returned a false positive and you are not infected with a nasty.

when i get a virus i am not using an anti virus software only xp firewall i use system restore send your computer back in time doesnt work all the time but up to yet it has

Ethel, I took your advice, Although my virus didn't show up it did find a few other items, If it had been lots I would have been suspicious.
I think that you might be right about the false positive.
Paulwho1961, If I use system restore will I lose all my new programmes and stored information?

not if your hard drive is partitioned even then try sending it back in time with system restore if it does not work send it back to how it was

worm/vb.aug is a variant of worm/agobot. AVG have released an update and cleaner to get rid of it. You may find that once rid it will still show as being in the vault. if so this is just a copy of then entry and not the virus it self so you can safely delete from here.
Re system restore points. A lot of viruses infect themselves into your restore points so each time you restart using system restore you are restarting with an infected entry. A lot of viruses require that you turn off system restore, reboot and get rid of the virus then enable system restore again. You will lose all your previous restore points but you wont be infected.
Have a look at symantec virus database if you get a virus and they will normally tell you the removal steps and whether you need to take this actions.
