i have a dvd/video combined
a tv
and a tiscali set top box(no ariel and not cable comes through phone line.)

having real problems connecting the video/dvd
any one got any ideas of the order i should try with leads?

i meant to add so that i can record programmes from the set top box

Don't know for sure - but is it possible to connect the box into the dvd , and then from the dvd to tv.

Assuming you have only one tuner in the dvd recorder you will have to set the recorder to record AV2 and have the box switched on at the channel you want to record. As soon as you switch it off or switch channel you will lose the recording.

try this:

-set top box scart into dvd vcr scart.
-dvd vcr scart 2 into tv scart.
-dvd-vcr rf out to tv aerial socket

(set top box scart 2 to tv scart 2 if applicable)

you will need the tv on AV / EXT and the dvd vcr on AV /EXT. to get any picrture at all.

It might be posible to tune the tv into the RF output of the dvd- vcr if it is fitted with a UHF modulater. consult the manual.

bear in mind that since you have no aerial, you can't watch one thing and record another unless you get one.
