I recently got a new computer with XP and regardless of the settings I put in it automatically both opens and signs in. Being on broadband people assume I'm here when I'm not so need to click appear offline every day or it's on 24/7 Is this an unusual problem or is there a simple fix as I really don't want to delete the whole program.
I'm assuming you mean that when your signed into MSN all day you want to remain appear offline?
If you do then try this.
When Msn signs in, right click the icon in the notification area and click sign out. The open MSn by double clicking the same icon and it will show ready to sign back in, choose appear offline at this point and then sign in, now everytime you sign in it will hopefully sign you in offline as this was preset.
The main problem is I don't want messenger to open at all unless I open it. It not only loads on bootup but signs in automatically once loaded. If I forget to appear offline it shows me online all day when I'm not.
I tried your idea but can't access any options once signed out except sign in.
Just check the box in the options via tools that says Dont start when i login to windows or even the dont logon when a internet connection is detected. Do this when signed in.
It amazes me the amount of people that just cant explore the Tools menu and have a poke around in there in any program, its very useful.
Its not a dig at the author just a generalised observation from AB members.
I've downloaded that Ethel and will see what happens, thanks.
Paul, if only that was so easy why on earth would I be here? It totally ignores every instruction, in 7 years I've never had a program that resets itself more than once, this does it continually whatever I do. At best it may delay it signing in for a few minutes. Of course I use the tools menu.
Your absolutely right about MSN it does factory reset more often than any other program. Its extremely annoying and can show the same attributes as most annoying trojans lol
Theres a very good MSn dedicated web site however i think they only deal with Live messenger, they do lots of tweaks and stuff.
I didn't mean to take a dig btw so apologies if you felt it was :P
