stiff keys
5 Answers
When I type an e-mail,the keys on my laptop seem-for want of a better term-rather stiff, and characters go missing. When i finish typing a sentence it will look like complete gobbledygook. Yet I do not have the problem as I type this-any ideas? the laptop is only about 3 months old.

What is your email client (Outlook, Outlook Express, Thunderbird etc...).
Struggling to think of a reason for this except that maybe you are low on system resources; basically you need to clean up your system and/or get some more memory (which is very cheap at the moment, I just bought 1GB laptop memory for 20).
Also, later versions of MS Office (after version2000) use Word for new emails (assuming you have selected that option, which is the default), but this should be no different to typing in Word.

musicmummy-mine is an HP Pavillion...bought in March. So quite new....therefor I don't see how lack of or insufficient memory could be problem, Poinsy. I am novice at this,so except for e-mails to friends&rellies the only typing I do is when I am on AB.And problem isn't present then>and it is not a 'lag'....the letters just don't appear!So-o-o-o-for example, the word "sentence" may look like- " entce"
Just trying to get a grasp on this strange problem. When you type responses in AB all is fine, yet when you type emails in Outlook letters go missing - correct ?
Also, has this just started happening or has it been this way since day 1?
I am wondering whether it is the As-you-type Spell & Grammar checking ? You could experiment with turning these options on & off, also ensuring the dictionary is English (UK), use plain-text rather than HTML, un-tick the Use Word 2003 (or whatever version) for new emails. These are available from Tools/Options, then Mail Format & Spelling Tabs.
Again, this assumes Outlook as you haven't said what email client you are using.
