windows messenger error code 1601

I keep getting this error code 1601 when trying to instal the latest version. How can I fix it?
Without installing the latest version it wont allow me in!

My pc must be really f*** ed because it wont accept any new programme to run. I have just tried downloading the windows clean up utility and when I click on RUN to run it, I get a message saying that the windows installer hasnt been installed properly.

This is what I get when I try to run it:
"The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running windows in safe mode, or if the windows installer is not correctly installed"

uh oh when I click on SEARCH nothing happens. The pc doesnt respond to the command.

I havent been able to find anyone that can sort this out on AB yet however, I have had this problem for weeks.
System restore doesnt help, I have tried it many times.
The only scanning I can do is via Ad-Aware. I used to have AVG until this happened, then it stopped working.
So I cant really do much in the way of updating virus scanning.
It wont let me install or remove anything and its been going on since I came back from hols about 6 weeks ago, Im sure that I must have changed something before I left which has made it like this :(

sometimes if you are running an old version of browser, it may not be compatible with the latest version of MSN.

I recently had a similar problem with MSN.

oh lordy. Sorry neildownx for being a pain in the ar se but I cant copy and paste the list because it wont respond when I right click on the mouse. Is there another way to copy and paste it?

Ah well. Guess I do have to call someone round to fix this.

ok neil I will write it down-I take it you only need to know the location of everything on the list and not its command. I will do this right now, might take a short while. Please bear with me.
