What is the make / model?
If the screen is wider than it is high, it is widescreen. Having said that, my laptop is widescreen and plays full screen YouTube videos in the entire screen. Your settings need adjusting.
Start - My Computer - Appearance and Themes - change the screen resolution - settings. Make a note of the current resolution, so if you mess up, you can go back to it. Mine is 1280 x 800.
Your cd -
Start - my computer - how is the 'devices with removable storage' icon titled? Mine says DVDrw.
If no clues there, click 'view system information' in the left hand pane - hardware - device manager.
Double click on dvd/cd drives and read all the information there - that should tell you.
A quick easy way is to open Windows Media Player, click the burn tab and see what happens.
