ipod problems

my sons ipod wont turn off and sounds like it is ticking all the time! any ideas

To reset it slide the hold button to hold and then back again.
Then hold the centre button and menu together until the apple logo appears.
It shouldn't lose any songs but prehaps best to check you itunes library to make sure you won't lose anything.
