i use panasonic dvd-rw 120min/4.7gb 4x/2x to record movies from sony dvd hard disk to keep. r they the best ones to use and can they play back on all dvd players? recently i tried to play one of these recorded dvds on another player and did not work. advice please. thanks

I don't think you'll find a dvd-rw that will work on all dvd players. Some are designed not to play copies. Strangely enough, these seem to be the more expensive models.
most will jnow play DV-RW, but you will have to make sure that the disc you have just recorded is finalised before playing it in another player.

It must be finalised by the recorder
