Picasa 2 and e.mail

Hi, when I try to send pics from Picasa 2 they sit there connecting, then the message pops up 'smtp server has not responded' then when I go to Outlook Express off they go! Is this the norm please, as it takes a while longer to do this way. Thanks in advance, hopefully!
