I want to compile a short film and upload it onto You Tube but I haven't got the faintest idea how to do it. Is there a web site that may help or advise? Thanks.

Yes, try the youtube website itself. They have an faq section that tells you the different ways to record a video (camcorder, phone or webcam) and the different video resolutions required for your masterpiece to look good on the small screen.
