CDR/ CDRW

I have been given some copied language CD's on CDRs which will only play via my pooter and not on the stereo. Can I burn the copies onto CDRW's (with Nero) and end up with something which can be played on my stereo.. this question made sense in my head but I am not so sure when I see it in print but I am ever the optimist! Thanks peeps :o)

Depends on what type of CD (CD-ROM or Audio CD) it is and what types of files are on it. If it just a CD of audio files then it should work on your stereo if the audio files types are compatible with your player. If it is a CD-ROM then no it will not play on your stereo. Open the CD, using explore and see what kind of files are in there. If it is that the audio files are not compatible you can get a converter program (db power amp for example-free for the standard version) which will convert a whole laundry list of of audio files from one type to another. If your CD is a CD-ROM then it is only the computer for you. Hope it helps.

Audio files need to be .cda files to be played in most stereo CD players. The computer, however, will read and play lots of different media types such as .wav, .mp3, .rm etc If your problem CD contains .cda files then you are in trouble as it may be that your stereo CD doesn't recognise burnt CDs. The most likely case is that the problem CD contains .mp3 or .wav files and these have to be converted to .cda files. This is done by copying the files to your hard drive then using Nero to create a *music* CD. Point the Nero wizard at the file you want then wait while the Nero does the rest.

Generally, CDRW discs don't work in hifi's when you burn them as audio/"music" discs - not so with standard CDRs. I have this "fact" in my head for some reason but can't remember where it's from so someone may want to test drive it.
