TV set problem

My 3 year old conventional TV has`taken to defaulting to Standby mid programmes. Sometimes the screen first goes blue momentarily, with a raster, At other times, straight to Standby. Occasioally the red warniing light flickers when in Standby mode. Pressing the handset key gets all going again. What''s`going on?

it's bust!

sounds like the standby is kicking in ..
(how's that for stating he obvious?)

two reasons I can think of
1 it's bust!
2 the (a) button on the remote is sticking
OR
ok three reasons....
the batteries are spent
I had a vcr that did all the wrong things .... press stop - vcr fast forward ..... play - telly switched off
but only when the batteries needed changing
