While I think DVD RAM does have some technical advantages over ther other DVD formats there are very few devices that actually support it.

If you create a DVD RAM disk then you will probably only be able to play it back on the device you created it on as you are not likely to find other devices that support it.

I have a Panasonic DVD recorder that makes a big fuss about supporting it (I think Panasonic invented it) but I am not sure who else apart from them supports it.

Hi again veryhelpfulguy, thanks for that info. I also have a Panasonic DVD recorder which I use regulary but as you say DVD RAMs won`t play back on my sons unit.
Forgot RAM, it's a lost cause.

Stick to R/RW
Ihave a new Samsung dvd recorder and it only supports dvd-RW but it's excellent, I don't have a clue about +RW

To fo3nix. Please explain your post.
There were 3 proposed standards, years ago: RAM, and R/RW.

RAM was never really picked up. Some drives support it, not all. Don't bother with it.

R/RW are the ones to go for, since they're most compatible.

Cheers fo3nix, I`ll go get em
For standalone players, if you're recording video onto them, -R/RW are better.

For archival storage, +R/RW are better.

I won't bother going into the technical reasons why.
