kaspersky anti-virus

I am really dissapointed with it. I replaced AVG with it several days ago and its really slowed down the operations and caused crashes several times. Yes, it may track down more viruses, but at what cost?

you never get anything for nothing ... one reason AVG is so unobtrusive is it sits sucking it's thumb most of the time.
a growing trend (if you don't bank, aren't writing a book, and don't have kids) is to buy imaging software .... build your machine - get things just how you want ... take an image ... and just accept that you are going to get something nasty.
when you do ... just restore your PC ... and do it again.
I've run one of mine on the red side of my DMZ for ages now - no scanners/firewall or caution .... goes like a rocket .... lasts a couple or so months ... than takes 20 mins to restore.
I also have a machine that's locked down tight ... the only one that even knows I have a credit card ... it's sluggish ... but it's safe .... that's the price
