Does anyone know how to go about getting this (videos transferred to dvds) done? I've found a few websites, but I'm reluctant to send my precious tapes off to somewhere - do any of the chainstoresdo this?

There are quite a few places. I believe the likes of Max Spielmans and perhaps other photo processing shops offer this service. But it is expensive.

Don't you have any friends that have a DVD recorder? It's a simple task to hook up a VCR to it and transfer tapes to DVD. I was a videographer for twelve years, and often transfer tapes to DVD for friends, but I can understand your reluctance to send your tapes off to anyone. If you do send them off anywhere, make sure you send them by registered post.
laura_lou it,s not too difficult to do this yourself.Using scart leads. My setup goes like this:- Sky Digibox VCR scart to Video Recorder Decoder scart, Video Recorder AV scart to DVD Recorder decoder scart, DVD Recorder AV scart to TV AV 2 scart & finally a scart lead from Sky Digibox TV scart to AV 1 on TV.Only link this way ( Video Recorder to DVD Recorder) and NOT DVD to VCR. Hope you are successful.Ron.

thanks guys, I'll see if I can find anyone who still owns a VCR and wouldn't mind lending it and I can use my own DVD recorder....hopefully!
If you already have a DVD recorder, that's half the battle (Sorry, I just presumed you didn't have one). I'm sure you'll find it easy to set up.

Even if you can't borrow a VCR, you can pick them up quite cheaply now anyway (I've seen brand new ones for less than 20 quid). In the long run it would work out much cheaper than having one of these specialist places transfer your tapes for you. Best of luck. ;)
