I noticed at the filling station today that diesel is now 15p litre dearer than petrol.
Does anyone know the reason for this change? A short while back diesel was between 5p and 8p a litre cheaper than petrol.
Did I miss a tax hike on diesel?

A lot of what you pay at the pump is actually tax. Fuel duty around 60p and VAT on top of it all at 17.5%. So assuming a price of 1.13 per litre, less VAT is about 96p less fuel duty is 36p. This is the true price of fuel including production, transport and forecourt profit.
its funny because originally diesel was the cheapest because is required less refining than petrol..well thats what the government said at the time
may have summat 2 do with most new cars now being diesel so they can up the price as a result. Its a way 2 get more tax. Car roar tax will go back to how it used 2 be when government lose out with people buying cheap taxed cars, once enough is on nthe rd it'll change. Politics...all sly
