I am trying to update AVG 8.0 but can`t because it keeps saying I have another security and I should clear it but I`m not sure if I should. Having looked in Control Panel I have uninstalled `Reg Cure` but still have `Mail Washer Free` and `Windows Defender`. Can you advise if I should get rid of these also? and is it advisable to re-install them after.? TIA.

I recently upgraded avg free version.
After downloading the programme and saving to desktop I then started the install programme. At this point it advised that previous versions would be automatically uninstalled and the update went along smoothly.
I would suggest that you uninstall the previous version of avg and then download and install the newer version. This should avoid any conflicts. The presence of your other programmes should not have an effect. Only trying to install two firewalls should present problems.

pauln90, Thanks for your input and I tried but still I get `You must uninstall the other etc, etc` But is it advisable to make my PC vulnerable even for a short while? I am not at all IT savvy so please excuse my ignorance. I am told to `save` AVG to desktop, how do I do that? Also the only security I have now is Windows Security Center. (As far as I know) Any further help to get AVG 8.0 would be greatly appreciated.
If it won't upgrade ... stop trying...
make sure you have the new install saved on your machine...
(personally I'd sack AVG ... get a decent scanner ... such as the equally free ... but unequally superior AVIRA
http://www.free-av.com/
(every review I've read in the last year rate avira far higher than AVG)
either way
disconnect your internet
uninstall avg 7.5
reboot
install the scanner of choice....
reboot
reconnect internet ... enjoy
again personally ...I'd
dump Reg cure ... it doesn't ...
I've never ever ever seen a positive review in any serious mag. they whizz and bang ... but it's impossible that any app could know every possible combination for every possible version of every possible prog in the world ....(just thinking about it gives me a headache)
the other two are OK ... shouldn't need re-installing
