yep..

goto start menu> settings > control panel

Select security center at the bottom click on automatic updates and turn it off there.
Click on Start, then Control Panel, then on Security Centre and switch the automatic updates off. Just switch it back on when you have time to receive updates.
Damn you and your fast fingers Mark. :-)
that was badly worded

goto start menu> settings > control panel

Select security center and then at the bottom of that screen click on automatic updates and turn it off there.
I've had a lot of women say that to me :)

Nice one, thanks both.
Whats that firewall thing for?
Does it restrict me from seeing stuff?
no it stops bad things being able to gain access to your computer by restricting and blocking the things that can get through. the built in windows firewall is better than nothing but it's not great, you'd be better off downloading and installing zone alarm for a decent free replacement.

A Firewall is there to stop others from remotely getting into your PC, but Microsofts version is pretty useless. Better of with Comodo or Zone Alarm. Just google them.
I give up........................;-)
done it again LOL

:)
lol
If you do turn automatic updates off make sure you download the fixes pretty soon after they come out.

When Microsoft announce there is a security hole in Windows that they have fixed then the virus writers act quickly to write viruses to exploit the hole.

They know that not everyone will get the fix on so it leaves a nice open hole in Windows for them to exploit.

Make sure you install the updates as soon as you can.
