Probably.

iTunes will do this for you though, and is definitely more tested. Also not sure why you'd do this unless you're using a device that doesn't know AAC?

I don't have iTunes, and I don't want iTunes. :)

My Zen syncs very well with WMP but there is an occasional hiccup with mp4 files.
