Camcorder Tape to DVD

I have a video camcorder tape of my grandsons christening which i recorded myself, please can anyone tell me how i put it onto a DVD and do i need any special equipment/programmes to be able to do the transfer via my pc Thanks

Thanks shylock73, as i don't have a dvd recorder (just my camcorder and pc) i am not sure how i will do it

Hi BOB,
You have a few options with transfer of (DVCAM?) tapes to DVD.
1. Use a DVD recorder and plug your camcorder in to it ( using either av cables for analogue video or firewire if it is a dvcam ). This is probably the easiest option.

2. Transfer to a PC then burn to DVD using the PC's DVD recorder. This can be as easy or as complex as you like, but can be fraught with problems not least is the size of your hard drive. Video files take up huge amounts of space, so even a 40 G HDD can soon fill up once you get around to processing your video.
How you connect to the PC depends on the type of camcorder, analogue ones such as vhs, hi8 will need a digitising device such as Dazzle for �50 or so.
If you have a DVCAM camcorder then a firewire between camera and pc will do it providing the PC has a firewire card, if not they are availabe from �6 or so and mat even come with editing software.
Once on the PC you can edit the pics and sound, add comm or effects and so on to your hearts content. You can use Windows Movie Make for this or buy a video editing package such as those from Pinnacle. Finally burn to DVD
