Last night I went to the Microsoft website and it recommended I dowloaded service pack 2.I went ahead and did this, but now wish I had not.For some reason, whatever P2P I use,it now disconnects from the internet after about half an hour.I have looked at all the settings and they seem fine. Also, I use Nero for burning discs, but a message now appears stating that there is a known problem with the Nero software, and service pack.I spent hours just trying to sort out problems, and now I wish I had never downloaded SP2.If I went ahead and restored my pc to the day before I downloaded SP2, do you think SP2 will be removed?

I'd certainly try a System Restore - I've have found that it works fine for me in similar situations.
Can you not remove sp-2 from add/remove programs in the control panel?
SP2 is not a program - it's a complete re-write of the operating system, and so cannot be removed by the add/remove program feature.
Really, pinus. Is that why I have a remove option for Windows XP SP-2 in my add/remove programs?
j2buttonsw is correct as the information at the bottom of this page will confirm. You can also find all other XP SP2 information here. Incidently at my work we have been told specifically not to download XP SP2 because it is know to cause conflicts with many software programs. Here is the link:

j2buttonsw is right - you can remove it but only if you havent removed the backup files. As for nero, get the latest demo version from the website. Your old product key WILL work to unlock it (unintstall the old one first). With the p2p, check that it has full access and not being blocked by the new windows firewall (which is on by default). It will work, you just need to configure it.
Another thing, i have SP2 installed and had no problems at all. Seriously, it shocked me what the new firewall blocked - even things that the latest norton didnt! And internet explorer is A LOT more secure. There IS NO WAY im getting rid of SP2.
I have had problems with SP2 and will use the remove option. My problem was that in explorer when I right clicked on certain files I got Dr Watson Post Mortem ******** error. I removed the ******** but still have an error in the memory.Any thoughts about what to do next without removing SP2
The **** are D-E-*-*-*-*-*-*
This is most frustrating I think you can guess the word it has Bug in it
I too am living in SP2 hell. My issue is that I use netmeeting/desktop sharing to work from home. Since the fateful day I installed SP2, it doesn't work anymore. It's not a firewall problem and restore doesn't work because it was turned off prior to SP2 install date. Have no idea how or why....don't remember doing it myself. The people at Dell and Windows help have suggested that I trash my hard drive and start over. Neither of them have suggested uninstalling SP2. Just wondering if anyone has successfully unintalled it and how it worked out for them. As rinkytink points out MS says it can be done, but then they are the ones that said SP2 was god's gift to the world....aren't they? Any recommends? Thanks.
I 2 have had a problem with sp2 i am running windows xp and it stops me accessing me emails from outlook. So i did a system restore
