I can get onto the internet but after a very short period it cuts out.

One green light on the modem starts to flash. Error 692 comes up. Anyone know of a fix because it's driving me mad

I did a search in Google for "Modem Error 692" and got loads of hits. Look through some of them.

Can you give a bit more information.

Dial up or Broadband ?
What ISP ?
What version of Windows ?
How long has this been happening?
Made any changes to your computer lately?

No changes made as far as I am aware. Picking up the phone solves the problem for a few minutes

I had something similar when I first signed up to Broadband (I can't remember the error message but my internet connection kept dying .... at irregular intervals) - turned out to be a bad connection at the telephone box. BT (my phone line supplier) kindly changed the (ancient) box with a splitter/filter to one with an in-built splitter/filter - no charge - so I had one socket for telephone and the other for 'puter.... No problems since !

Jugglering

How did you persuade BT to deal with this problem ?
juggs is very much on the right lines for the first thing to try, basically try another filter on the line, the ones supplied by broadband providers tend to be cheap and crap!

do a search for ADSLnation filters and you should be able to buy a decent filter for about 15quid.

also if you modem is plugged into an extension socket and not the master phone socket in the house it may be bad wiring on the extension. If you are able to try it plugged inito the master socket.

if you still get frequent disconnections then you need to talk to your ISP as it's probably a bad phone line!
I rang them up (to report a fault on the line, which effectively was what it was) and as they could hear some crackles on my phone line, they agreed to come and check the line.... the engineer who called around to the house was really helpful and he suggested that it might need a new *box of tricks*. He did warn me that I would then have to use this new box for my pc in the future - I'd not really be able to use any of the other phone sockets for pc's.... well, that was ok with me..

Honestly, I did not flatter my eyelashes or anything like that.. BT were simply great....
Ahhh yes, Chuck.... beanpole definitely needs to plug into the master socket and get hold of a decent filter. Since BT replaced my master socket and filter etc, I now have a lovely brand new - working - bit of kit.
