Has anyone experience with PTGuide and Image Assistant? It is ages since I used it and am absolutely lost at the moment.

IrfanView (free) will stitch photos together easily, both horizontally and vertical. For overlaying and lining up separate photos to make one very wide panoramic view you really need something like photoshop.
