I am a service engineer and have just been given a PDA by my company.
It does not have built in GPS.
Can my company track my movements with this device?
I have heard of someone in a similar job who was dismissed because he was not where he should have been!
If you can be traced, does your employer have to inform you they are tracking you?
TIA.

Is it also a mobile phone (like a Blackberry)? If so then yes, you can be tracked (just like you can track a mobile phone) but they do have to confirm that they are doing this.

If it is just a PDA with no phone capabilities then it can't be tracked.

They don't have to tell you if they have good reason to suspect you are doing something which amounts to a sackable offence.
if they pay to a tracking service of which there are many then they nmay be able to

Thanks for quick answers!
Yes it is possible to use as a phone, although it has a data only sim, as I have a separate phone.
I ask because I sometimes have a longer dinner break some days, but sometimes I dont stop for lunch at all.
It's swings and roundabouts, but they may not see it like that.
as the others say

if there's a communication capability you are traceable to the sending cell (normally 1-2Km) (google use this for their pda maps)

the technology is only 100% at home office level - and 2km is a fair circle.

the days of afternoons in the pub are long gone (for many reasons)

your employer has a duty of care as well as a finacial stake in your time.

if you deal with customers ... that's a reliable way of tracing you - pda or not
