it is a pain but very easy at the same time! xp can be added over the top of existing windows installs but is not reccommended btw
If you still have all the CDs from your existing software, then re-installing it all shouldn't be a pain (albeit time consuming) If you were going to pretty much wipe your hard drive and start again (probably a good way about it) you may lose all your documents / pictures etc, so it's probably worth making a backup of these on CDR if you can. Congratulations on the upgrade, XP may not be seamless but it's a lot smoother than ME.
Hope all goes well but just like to say that might be worth checking how much more strain the new op system is going to put on ur existing machine....hdd and ram and speed etc....and will it be worth it in the end ....
Wouldn't XP be less demanding than ME? I noticed an increase in performance when I put it on a machine I had running ME, but it may have been shot to (*bad word*) beforehand.

thanks for the answers, confirmed all my thoughts. Has to be done though so that I can work my Ipod.
Hi, you have nothing to lose by installing XP over ME. Most programmes will probably work OK and any that don't you can go to start/programs/accessories/system tools/program compatability wizard to run programs that weren't designed for XP but ran OK in ME. Failing that you can always reinstall the programmes that won't work. If it all fails you can wipe the drive and install XP after.
