3G sim card

I recently upgraded to a 3G phone, so therefore I had to also transfer to a 3G sim. My current phone suits me fine but it's a bit chunky, at times I really want just to carry a more compact phone, I found a great really cheap unlocked pay as you go phone, my question is can a 3G sim card work on any unlocked phone?

I think you'll find that the 3G Sim card will work in non-3G phone for phoning and texting, but not for Internet, video, email etc.
