iphone - how do I convert a dvd to play on it

Hi

I have an iphone but a bit of a technophobe. How can I simply copy a dvd film I have onto the iphone to watch when I feel like it? I own the original, so its not infringing anything, only for my use etc...

If it is copyrighted to prevent you even making one copy, you are infringing the rules - you have bought a licence to view it in the form and medium you received it on.

Video takes an awful lot of space. How long is the film and how much space does your iphone have?

Essentially, you need to convert the DVD to an .mp4 file which you then drop into iTunes and sync your iPhone

The file will be about half a gig for a normal length feature film, so you will have room for several on you iPhone.

The provision for legally downloading films you want is abysmal. There is hardly any content out there. Until the film companies get there finger out and start to make stuff available to buy, then ripping your own from a purchased DVD is your only recourse.

Thanks for the answer so far - but to clarify I have lots fo films on dvd i bought and sit 2 hours each day on a train and want to watch them, thats why I am asking.

There is a very limited number of films to buy from the iTunes store. If by some miracle they do have one you want, it will cost you �7 each.

Ethel's right, but sod the law. You bought it, you can do what you damn like with it.

Handbrake, Gromit's suggestion, works well. However, some DVDs need decoding first, to remove copy protection that Handbrake doesn't like. To do this, you can use something like AnyDVD.
