"which is the best speed ?

Hi I am copying on to CD some songs which I have written,which is the best speed to record onto inexpensive blank CD's.

Also when I have tried to play the disc's some machines fail to play ,why would this be ,

as fast as your writer/discs will support, although some will say slower gives better burns the difference, if any, is marginal.

And some (mainly older) audio CD players just don't like some brands/types of CD-R's. It's best to just experiment to find a brand that works well for you.

I suppose in theory slower could, as chuck says give a better sound (fewer errors).

however you've said inexpensive - which generally means cheap - which generally means poor quality.

I find my dvd writers (2 48x sonys) refuse faster than 16x on my current batch of verbatam dvds
so to be safe - I'd say slower - 16 or 8x

as for the refuse to play - what format are the files?
mp3 won't play on old or cheap players - you need to make "propper" audio CDs (cda format)

I have had the same probs with playing burnt discs on my CD player.My grandson(who's a whizz with computer stuff) put me on to this:- Burn CD-RW as usual from playlist in i-tunes, then insert CD-RW into your CD-Rom tray,i-tunes will ask;-do you want to import this disk into i-tunes,click yes.i-tunes will import this in mp3 format. Now download this free version of Audio CD Creator http://www.download3000.com/download_17723.htm l.Burn to CD-R & then you can use the CD-RW again. Although this appears to be a long winded way of doing it, I can assure you I have good results every time.Ron.

The reflection of the laser depensd on the opaque layer of paint on the label side. Some blank CDs have an inadequate layer.

Hold it up to the light. You can see through the poor quality ones.

BESCO Hi Thanks for your reply the Verbatim disc's that I have are coated all over apart from the areas where the Name of maker and disc information IS printed is this a problem??, I am grateful for your input..
