can a dvd burned on a pc be played on a mac?

i have burned a dvd on my pc for a friend, but he has a mac,...compatibility is my question- is there a device or a code he needs to download to play the dvd on his mac, he says he gets stuttering sound and no picture

What DVD?

A film? If so, then it sounds like the DVD itself is a bit iffy.

Macs can read any files or types you throw at them; more than Windows can.

Tell him to also download VLC and try playing it with that.
