Sorry if this has already been asked/answered, couldn't find anything in the history - I'm looking to get Broadband at home, but may be moving in the next few months. Tiscali charge 50 for moving which puts me off them. Who would you recommend signing up with and why? Any charge info gratefully received too! Thanks.
virgin.net offer a contract free ADSL connection. ie, you don't need to sign up for at least 12 months like with other ISPs. You can cancel at anytime without losing money. Might be suitable for your needs.
I am with tesco, 19.97 a month, and you get a free modem plus connection.Do not know what happens if you move, but give them a ring and they would give you an answer.
im with wanadoo and have been for over 2 years and pay 28-99/month.i thought about moving to the uk's no.1(at that time eclipse or nildram) but 2 things put me off.
1 potential hassle/delays with moving
2 when i speed tested my connection it was on a par with the top boys
BUt Wandoo are charging less that ten pound in France, similar in Germany and now 19.99 in the UK, the compulsary contracts for one year are wrong, without them competition would be better. With the amount of money that BT get on lines all lines should be converted automatically, but there is money to be made in making eveyrone change one by one.
If you live in a Telewest area and move to a new house also within their coverage the cost is only 10 to transfer your account to your new address and if you talk really nice you might be able to get the charge waved.
Downside..you don't live in a Telewest area. The up side is (if you do) the speeds offered.. up to 3MB/sec! (I am on this atm and it is stunning speed, great if you hammer the newsgroup binaries (provided by them as well) for all on offer at max bandwith on the connection!)
freedon2surf are a good ISP and don't require a 12 month contract. If you don't mind a cap on your bandwidth (upload and download combined) then you can get very cheap broadband. If you pay a little more then you can get the same without any cap.
Incidentally, to Joanne-G I've read that you can uncap certain cable modems on Telewest to get more bandwidth for less cash. Have a look here for more info.
In responce to stevie21, Telewest monitor connections and have systems in place to alert them if someone wants to use this hack on their network. It is not worth loosing ones account altogether by attempting to get some more speed for "free"
