a device that is simple and easy to use, so i can play my i-pod through my car stereo, i have tried one of the transmitters i brought from e-bay, but it keeps losing the signal. tia

An FM transmitter should be OK if you've got one which can be tuned to a specific frequency. The very cheap ones are no good - I bought one then had to buy one of the tunable ones. Otherwise, try a cassette adaptor. Poundland sometimes have them or you can get them for well under a tenner from lots of places - Amazon currently have quite a few, starting at �2.80.
